Caol Ila is derived from Gaelic Caol Ìle for "Sound of Islay" (lit. "Islay Strait"). The distillery was founded in 1846 by Hector Henderson, and is owned today by Diageo. Like other Islay whiskies, Caol Ila is often peated, though usually on the lighter side, pale in colour, with floral and peppery notes.
We are very proud to present a Singapore-exclusive bottling from M&E Drinks (together with our friends at Porcine Partners), our very first! This undeclared Caol Ila was distilled in 2007, then aged in a first fill bourbon barrel before bottling in 2018. The nose is unmistakably young and vibrant (starfruit, green apple) complimented by subtle elegant peat smoke. The mouthfill is full, and the abundance of citrus fruits, oak, medicinal flavours and peat supports the cask strength ABV well. Furthermore, we bottled this non-chill filtered with no added coloring, how (in our humble opinion) good whiskies should be treated. Of the 150 individually numbered bottles released, only several remain and will be sold exclusively through this site until they are gone forever.
