The Ardbeg distillery, located on Ardbeg at the south coast of the isle of Islay, has been producing whisky since 1798, drawing its water from Loch Uigeadail. Like many other Scottish distilleries, Ardbeg whiskies were originally used in blends rather than for single malts. But its unique, full flavoured whiskies soon gained worldwide fandom, and older bottles with age statements now command a premium at auctions. Ardbeg produces a heavily peated style of whisky using malted barley sourced from Port Ellen.

This is Batch 2 (distilled 2000) of a very successful series of 19 year old "Traigh Bhan" bottlings, named after a well-known beach in Islay. According to the label, this was bottled "Under a thick haar" under distillery manager Mickey Heads, and has a profile of "Fresh lime, roasted tea leaves, smoked pineapple".
