We are pleased to present our second rum bottling, and the first Jamaican, a 16 year old Long Pond bottled for us by Valinch & Mallet. Medium ester (probably a VRW marque), featuring wonderful label art by @arcaydiastudio. As always, our selections are bottled at cask strength, with no added coloring, dosing or chill-filtration. Only 148 bottles.
Tasting Notes:
Nose - unmistakably a medium ester Long Pond. Everything is in balance. Notes of acetone and chemical funk are in delicate interplay with juicy and slightly fermented fruits (bananas, pineapples, oranges and a hint of ginger).
Mouth: The oak starts to make an appearance but in a very pleasant way, with hardly any bitterness. The fruity palate is a continuation of the nose with some evolution in the direction of less ripe fruit (strawberries, pomelos). A PX-like sweetness emerges in the background along with a little yeast.
Finish: Some chewy, nutty chocolate. The warmth of the spirit lingers on the tongue ending with a touch of cinnamon and the typical sour note that Long Pond is famous for.
